really appreciate you making this PR! I'm doing a full pass of the package right now to identify any exposed access points then consolidate that into a general helper. taking this opportunity to build that into a full test suite as well which I haven't had before. |

Add a key argument to load_variables, and provide to url to comply with 2026-05-12 policy requiring an API key for all requests.
