Lumo is a digital space designed to help people recognize, understand, and reflect on their emotions.
Built during the Apple Foundation Program, our team developed Lumo in just three weeks, taking the product from initial research and ideation to prototype and MVP.
The project was inspired by a common challenge faced by many young people today: difficulty understanding and expressing their emotions. When emotions remain unidentified, stress, anxiety, and burnout can become increasingly difficult to manage.
Lumo encourages emotional self-awareness by helping users explore, label, and reflect on what they are feeling in a simple and engaging way.
Many young people experience:
- Burnout and emotional exhaustion
- Difficulty identifying what they are feeling
- Stress and anxiety caused by emotional uncertainty
- Limited opportunities for meaningful self-reflection
Research suggests that labeling emotions can improve emotional awareness and help individuals better understand their experiences. By identifying and naming emotions, people can gain greater clarity about why they feel a certain way and how to respond constructively.
Lumo transforms emotional reflection into an interactive experience.
The application contains 196 emotion definitions, allowing users to move beyond broad categories such as "happy" or "sad" and discover emotions with greater precision.
Users can explore a dynamic emotional space, select emotions that resonate with them, and create a personalized emotional snapshot of their current state.
Navigate through an immersive space filled with emotion bubbles representing 196 distinct emotional states.
Select one or multiple emotions that best describe how you currently feel.
Chosen emotions combine into a single personalized emotion bubble, creating a visual representation of the user's emotional state.
Once emotions have been identified, users can use the Relieve feature to acknowledge and release those emotions through a calming interaction.
Track emotions over time to gain insights into emotional patterns, recurring feelings, and personal growth.
Lumo was developed during the Apple Foundation Program within a three-week product development cycle.
