One job rather than a matrix: each suite takes seconds, and a matrix would only make the required-check name harder to pin down in the branch ruleset. The packaging build is in there because nfpm.yaml breaks silently — nothing else exercises it, and the .deb is the delivery mechanism for the thing. The ruleset rejects a push to main, but only after the objects have gone over the wire and with a message that does not say what to do instead. The hook catches the habit first. Tracked under .githooks rather than left in .git/hooks so it survives a fresh clone; core.hooksPath is the one command that has to be run by hand, and both READMEs now say so.
