What is tuck

tuck is a minimalist window splitter that lives in your macOS menu bar.

Hold the trigger key (default Ctrl) and split layouts appear on screen. Move your mouse to pick a zone, release — the focused window snaps into place. No key combos to memorize, no fiddly config.

Why tuck

  • 20+ split layouts — Full screen / 2 / 3 / 4 panes and many variants (left-right, three columns, quad grid, narrow-wide…). Press to switch layouts, to switch variants.
  • Customizable trigger key — Hold Ctrl by default; remap it in the menu if it clashes with something.
  • Multi-display aware — Each screen remembers its own layout; external and built-in displays stay independent.
  • One-key full screenCtrl + Space maximizes the focused window instantly.
  • Swap on occupied — Drop a window onto a zone that's already taken, and the two windows trade places.

Install

  1. Download tuck.dmg from Releases
  2. Open the dmg and drag tuck into Applications
  3. Launch tuck (Apple-notarized — Gatekeeper won't block it)

⚠️ First launch needs two permissions

tuck has to move windows and to sense your trigger key, so it needs:

Permission Path Why
Accessibility System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility Lets tuck move / resize windows
Input Monitoring System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring Lets tuck detect your trigger key

Toggle tuck on in both. Without them, pressing Ctrl does nothing — that's not a bug.

Pricing

The core is free forever: Full screen / 2 / 3 / 4 panes and all their variants.

Denser layouts (5-pane, 6-pane and beyond) are an optional one-time Pro unlock — yours to keep.

Privacy

tuck runs entirely on your Mac. It does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data, files, or window contents. Your trigger-key preference and per-display layouts live only on your own device.
