KashrutChain

Kosher ingredient research tool. Works on any device.

🚀 Try it now

What It Does

Search 3 million products from Open Food Facts or paste any ingredient list to check for known non-kosher items.

  • Product Lookup — Search by name or barcode
  • Ingredient Checker — Paste any ingredient list for instant analysis
  • Ingredient Analysis — Flags hidden non-kosher ingredients like gelatin, shellac, animal enzymes, and more
  • Works Everywhere — PWA runs on kosher phones, iOS, Android, and desktop with no install

Important Disclaimer

This tool does NOT certify products as kosher. It only checks ingredient lists from Open Food Facts against known non-kosher items. It does not verify:

  • Kosher certification symbols (hechsher)
  • Processing equipment or facility status
  • Handling, transport, or cross-contamination
  • Whether ingredients are actually animal-derived

Always check the physical product packaging for a recognized kosher symbol. When in doubt, consult a qualified rabbi.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (PWA)
  • Data: Open Food Facts API (3M+ products)
  • Mobile App: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose (planned)

Roadmap

  • PWA ingredient lookup (live now)
  • Ingredient checker mode
  • Enhanced ingredient database
  • Android native app with offline-first architecture
  • iOS support via Kotlin Multiplatform
