Redly

Your notes and tasks, redly available.

Redly is a minimalist, powerful, and aesthetically pleasing knowledge base designed for people who value privacy, speed, and standard formats. It turns your local folders or browser storage into a sleek, searchable productivity hub that lives wherever you choose to keep it.

Data Ownership

Redly is built on the principle of user-led storage. Whether you prefer the speed of a browser-based sandbox or the transparency of your own local folders, Redly provides the interface while you maintain full custody of your information.

  • Offline-First: Your knowledge base is built to be fast and functional without needing an internet connection.

  • Transparent Formats: Your notes and tasks are stored as standard Markdown or JSON, ensuring your data is always portable and accessible.

Key Features: Your Workflow, Redly Available

What makes Redly unique is how it turns static text into a dynamic productivity hub. By keeping your hands on the keyboard, you can manage complex projects without ever leaving your note.

Command-Driven Creation

Everything is at your fingertips. Use the Slash Menu (/) to instantly generate headers, persistent tables, and todo lists as you type. No toolbars, no distractions—just pure flow.

Smart Tasks & Notifications

Redly breathes life into your todo lists using the @ symbol.

  • Natural Language Dates: Assign deadlines using the way you actually think—type @next monday at 4pm or @tomorrow to instantly schedule a task.

  • Precise Timing: You can also use specific stamps like @2026-03-05 or @14:30.

  • Native Alerts: These “Smart Tasks” trigger native browser push notifications, ensuring your deadlines are always front-of-mind.

Tag-Based Project Management

Organize your world using the # symbol.

  • Instant Grouping: Tag tasks to categorize them by project or status (e.g., #ideas or #urgent).

  • Intelligent Autocomplete: As soon as you type #, Redly suggests tags you’ve used elsewhere, keeping your workspace consistent and searchable.

WikiLinks & Backlinks

Turn your static folders into an interconnected web of knowledge using the [[ syntax.

  • Page Links: Type [[Note Name]] inside any document to establish a bi-directional link to another note. An intelligent dropdown menu will autocomplete existing file names across your workspace.

  • Linked References: At the bottom of any linked note, Redly automatically generates a Linked References section. This displays every note that links to the current file, complete with a contextual excerpt showing exactly how it was mentioned.

Bi-Directional Kanban Dashboard

Visualize your progress with a high-performance Kanban Board (Alt + V) that stays in perfect sync with your notes.

  • Automatic Status Updates: When you drag a task card between columns, Redly automatically rewrites the tags in your raw Markdown files.

  • Global Visibility: The dashboard aggregates every task from across your entire library, categorizing them into an actionable project view.

Getting Started

Redly is designed to be redly available the moment you open it. Because it is a Progressive Web App (PWA), you can use it instantly in your browser or install it for a full desktop experience.

1. Choose Your Workflow

Redly offers two ways to manage your data, giving you full control over where your knowledge lives:

  • The “I just want to type” way (Browser Storage):

    • Experience: Uses a secure, high-performance sandbox (OPFS) within your browser.

    • Best For: Quick notes, mobile use, and zero-configuration privacy.

    • Compatibility: Works across all modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox).

    • Automatic Backups: Browser storage is inherently temporary. To keep your data safe, Redly will automatically prompt you every 7 days to download a complete .json backup of your workspace if you haven't recently exported one. For an extra layer of peace-of-mind, Desktop users will receive a 48-hour warning suggesting they switch to Local Storage.

  • The “I own my data” way (Local Storage):

    • Experience: Points Redly at a specific folder on your hard drive.

    • Best For: Power users who want their notes stored as standard .md files accessible by other apps.

    • Compatibility: Optimized for Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge) on Desktop.

[!TIP] Switch Workspaces: You don't have to pick just one. Use Alt + W to switch between different local folders or browser sandboxes instantly.

2. Install for the Best Experience

For a distraction-free environment, install Redly as a PWA:

  • Desktop: Click the “Install Redly” button on the Welcome screen.

  • Mobile: Tap “Add to Home Screen” in your browser menu.
