GitHub without the panic

A short, plain-English guide to GitHub for people who aren't programmers.

Written for a friend who kept landing on GitHub pages and quietly backing away.

Read it here: https://iteachc.github.io/github-without-panic/

Covers:

  • what GitHub actually is, and why it feels wrong when you arrive
  • how to read a repo page (the four things that matter)
  • Releases, and why that one word solves most of it
  • which file to download, and which to ignore
  • worked examples: a gist, and a repo with no Releases
  • what to do when there's no Releases section
  • safety, before you run anything from the internet

Single HTML file, no dependencies, works offline. Copy it, change it, send it on.

MIT licensed.
