Alex Method DJ is a Spotify playlist platform that ran AI-generated playlists in production several months before Spotify and Apple shipped their own. It is the proof, with a timestamp, that the partnership thesis applies to creative work the platforms had not yet figured out how to do themselves.

The interesting part is not that it generates playlists. The interesting part is what it generates them from:

  • It curates by intent. Theme, situation, occasion, mood, energy curve, audience. The config names what the playlist is for, the platform builds the session that fits. A focus playlist for ADHD listens differently than a focus playlist for a coffee shop, and the curation reflects that.
