CC BY-SA 4.0

This repository contains the replication package, hands-on materials, analysis scripts for the paper "Harnessing Hype to Teach Empirical Thinking: An Experience With AI Coding Assistants" accepted at FSE-SEET 2026 reporting on our seminar on AI coding assistants and empirical research.

Repository Structure

The repository contains three main folders:

  1. The /hands-on-exercises contains the exercises for our three hands-on sessions. The first (code generation) and second hands-on session (explanation and refactoring) contains two separate exercises, while the third hands-on session (debugging) contains one exercise.

  2. The /hands-on-reflection contains the sosci survey for the reflections during the hands-on sessions as well as the Jupyter notebook script we used to analyze the data.

  3. The /seminar-reflection contains the sosci survey for the reflection after the seminar, the collected raw data, the annotated data (incl. codes and themes), as well as the Jupyter notebook script we used to analyze the quantitative data.

The SeminarDescription.md shows the used title and description when we offered the seminar at our university.
