About the PR

Gave felinids Hues skintone selection instead of their previous substantially restrictive HumanTones skintone selection.

Why / Balance

Some people enjoy their felinids being covered in fur, pretty much only improves the experience for the people who want it and doesn't affect people that don't necessarily care.

This messes with the identity of Felinid. If you want to play a cat-person, play Tajaran. Felinids are a demihuman species.

I disagree heavily with this. This realistically has no downsides and only allows people to make Felinids what they want and carry over characters they have elsewhere where this is already the case. Felinids not having fur is an arbitrary made up rule. If you want a felinid that doesnt have fur you can still give it skin tones. I would be genuinely curious if any actual Felinid players have an issue with this change.

That doesn't matter. This is a different server with different lore, what another server did or whether a player wants to carry a character from their is irrelevant

I just don't believe I've seen that written in stone anywhere in lore as far as I've read it here. And I still don't really understand what the downside is. Tarjaran and Felinids are visually distinct regardless of their skin tones. Tarjaran also have built-in nightvision, not a thing Felinids have. I genuinely dont believe this will have any impact on the species identity of Tarjaran and only exists to give players more freedom to make their character what they want without having literally any negative impact on anyone else. This to me seems like a change that has only upsides for the people it actually affects.

I get wanting to have an easy way to 1:1 move over a character from another server, but literally the main difference between felinids and tajara is that felinids are "catgirl/catboy" and tajara are the "furry" versions. Making felinids have full-body fur is just redundant.

Felinids don't have fur. Giving them RGB skin takes away from Tajaran visual identity, if you want to port a character to Triad who has fur please make them either a Tajaran or otherwise.

Triad is a server with it's own lore, integrating into the lore is a part of that.

Tajaran have distinctly different shapes and fur color that do not allow full cooperation with the RGB scaler. Everyone talks about Species Identity in this server like it matters more than player vision of their own characters.

Why so much push back over an RGB slider that is already pr'd and able to be merged. If it's not something someone likes, it's as opt out as it gets because you can just RGB slide it to a skin tone oriented color.

All arguments I've been seeing are just anti-fun and anti-agency. Species identity is a joke argument that only ever actually matters in pvp settings, which Triad is not.

Literally 0 reason to not merge this.

Species identity matters because this is a roleplay server. With established canon, and species. Which within that have their own identity.

Players should be creating characters that exist within the established lore. We are not like other servers that allow you to generate whatever you want to make with a mix of markings from all species. There is a curated list of species that exist within the sector.

Felinids are defined by their lore and as a result PRs that do not fit the lore aren't going to be merged.

If the goal is to "unbaldening" should also check their sprites, currently they're using human sprites according to Nyanyotrasen
Reference : Resources/Prototypes/Nyanotrasen/Species/felinid.yml

  id: Felinid
  name: species-name-felinid
roundStart: true # Mono # Triad revert
  prototype: MobFelinid
  sprites: MobHumanSprites
  markingLimits: MobFelinidMarkingLimits
  dollPrototype: MobFelinidDummy
  skinColoration: HumanToned

Tajaran and Vulp for comparison

So, from my review. RGB skintones is not enough, you need to see what's underneath that jumpsuit, even if you rarely open it because you don't/never do so. Still needs to be considered how it shows, imagine human skins that are bald but expected to have fur, which is funny.

@DDrakov I definitely see what you mean! I do have a few thoughts regarding it:

First, I admittedly gave the PR a bit of a silly name with the Unbaldening thing, I meant it more of an option to either be a furred or non-furred Felinid. I specifically didn't want to take away the option of being a skin-toned furless felinid from the people who also want that! I worry about changing the body too much as I do think it should look normal as skin-tone as well.

I also do think Tarjarans should be long-fur cats given their "cold weather cats" aspect, so I definitely don't think Felinids should look as fluffy as Tajaran. I kinda imagine furred felinids are more akin to a short-haired housecat where Tajaran are more akin to a lynx or a maine coon

However, I do think if they were to be given a new body appearance, I think a Vulp-similar body would probably feel close enough in regard to looking okay both with fur colors and skintone colors.

Ultimately though, if this is an adamant issue with their current body sprite appearance I would be more than happy to look into that :3

I agree with the tajaran, species revisit do need to be done sometime in the future but that's like very low priority as of now unless there's something mega wrong with them or bug/game breaking. for colors and skintone I can't say much again as I'm partially colorblinded so I'm lacking on that front.

It's not really an adamant issue rather than a parity/making them unique, our goal is to make species have their own distinct look/mechanic or just generally different unique than others.

After reviewing the proposed changes, we’ve decided not to merge this. The implementation does not align closely enough with the project’s current direction and would introduce additional maintenance concerns. We’re going to close the PR for now. This is not a reflection on the effort involved, and we appreciate your contribution and willingness to contribute to the project.
