About the PR

The need for speed is no more

Why / Balance

The speed meta is getting unreasonable, while also doesn't really make sense to have a boot that makes you speed, should get a proper replacement like bionics and such.

Why is there an alleged no longer need for speed? I certainly would prefer to not lose it.

Um, how about no??? There is no need to kill it in a PVE server, let people be speedy

Removing speedboots obtain is already planned by a long due, I honestly prefer it to have an advance legs rather than a boot that makes you fast which doesn't make sense in some way.

Could we please properly label prs with the Why/balance sections and explaining WHY we're doing things.

Personally, if the boots go, fine. Add speed legs or give us sprinting.

I made this in a hurry, I'll update it later.

As for speed legs I'm honestly planning to add more bionics from FH or I think it's SL? I forgot

I'd outright remove the boots ngl. Like full on comment them out. Else there is a tangible risk for a bad apple in staff spawning it in for their CC snowflake/event snowflake. Not saying that there are bad apples currently or that it will happen but it can happen and thus is bound to happen just by pure statistics. Saves folks from wasting time on mass printing them now only for that to be removed later as well.

Secondly:

Cyberware is not a good idea for anything that is above LRP unless theres means to store them. Why? Well how do you explain that your kung fu kicking legs (please dont turn this into a cybernetic holy fuck that sounds dumb) turn normal after a round. Sure you could work around this by cutting off your legs before cryo but who the fuck cuts their legs off realistically after they are done working. Its a pure gameplay thing then. For cyberware maybe have like an augmentation chamber or something where you can store a limited amount of cyberware that automatically puts it back in (after a timer and a fee maybe). But even then how is this explained in universe. This aint just for speed boots but augs in general, like sure subdermals are easy to remove at least but anything thats a limb replacement is just kinda ehhhh

Why are we killing bionics, that's an ENTIRELY different thing. Just remove the speedboots and add sprinting. It's always been weird that'd I'd hustle with the same amount of speed to the shipyard as I would from the tesla ball chasing me down.

That's a fair point, I'l look into it

And no we are not removing bionics lol. Admittedly there are some funny issue here and there but it'll be ironed eventually. For adding sprinting, idk never seen a fork with it?

Omu/Byrd/funky have sprinting and it's pretty need. It gives you speed at the cost of stamina consumption. Which with out trait systems is perfect since we have a few traits that interact with stamina and I could think of a few more traits we could add like increased stamina consumption on sprint.

Huh, might look into it when I got time.

Please do! I wish the stamina system had more use then a "nonlethal hp bar", giving it use with sprint would be nice.

so my only thing with this atm is stamina atm or well how monolith balanced it is a strictly armor and meele combat system, wide swing cost stamina while armor plate convert from damage to stamina, adding more well stuff that consume stamina while cool would need some consideration due to how stamina work atm

Weren't we considering removing the wide swing stamina cost to some weapons?

I forgot armor plates had stamina cost I never use them.

no, cuz as i stated on the suggestion channel, monolith combat is balanced around the fact meele wide swing is a situational OP thing, and it is, i also stated why and how people keep failing at meele and it not cuz wide swing cost stamina. And ye plate convert iirc damage to stamina at a 1 to 1 value, that why if your pierce plate get shatter in one hit and if you dont have good armor afaik you will be put to near stam crit immediatedly, this combine with well if we do sprinting it would be abit iffy. That and this is a personal opinion, sprinting is a really bad mechanic, ss14 combat especiaally how it is made with mono core design give people a even more constant mobility option like that is really iffy. A better sprinting or run mechanic i would suggest to look at is stalker 14 where they made normal jogging and running take stamina but even that is ignoring well stalker14 combat range is way longer than monolith or funky. I would much sometime akin to jump boot or a vulp dash than outright sprinting

Maybe the speed meta could be looked at as a whole rather than just the boots? Like removing the speed penalty from assault rifles, buffing SPEED legs, and taking a look at the various armors and hard suits to see if their speed modifiers match their protection values and the vibe of how much they should restrict movement.

That will just make speed meta worse and more work to do so. Removing speed penalty and buffing SPEED legs wont solve the speed meta lmao. For armor yeah some are unbalanced as fuck and will be reviewed later on.

Frankly, i dont see how its enough of a problem to justify a half-measure triage. Why can't removal wait on an armor rebalance?

That's a different topic, with good enough built you can outrun any mobs with speedboots.

I really don't think it is. Not if the reasoning being the removal is to address the meta issue. Also doesn't address my question of "Why is the speed meta so critical of an issue that this needs to be done right now?"

Either way. It's either choose A or choose B the result will be the same.

In that case, id choose the one that leaves it alone for now and deals with it later when the rest is cooked.
