Concentrator

A device that provides bridging services between the layout manager and a set of litems. Tipically the concentrators have two network interfaces, whose nature depends on the network technologies of the manager and the litems. An example of concentrator can be that bridging BLE litems with an ethernet manager.

Item (layout)

Any item in a layout suitable to be automated. Examples could be a scale-model locomotive, a rail switch or a slot car.

Layout

Physical or virtual scale-model space where a set of items suitable to be automated exist. Examples of layout can be a scale-model train layout or a slot car track.

Litem

Contraction of "Layout Item", any device in a layout that provides automation services. Any litem is managed from a manager via a litem concentrator. An example of litem is a scale-model locomotive 802.15.4 controller.

M

Manager (layout)

A software system that allows full automation control of a layout to the end user. A manager uses a set of concentrators to access the litems that, in last term, perform the automation tasks.
