Updates assertpy2 from 2.20.1 to 2.23.0

Release notes

Sourced from assertpy2's releases.

2.23.0

Two changes to behaviour and four typing narrowings.
Read Behaviour changes before upgrading.

TL;DR

New
assertpy2_profile = "safe" the three diagnostics on in one line, instead of three settings a suite has to find
AssertionFailure.has_expected tells "compared against None" from "named no expectation", which expected is None cannot
Every failure names what it measured against expected was filled by the comparison assertions and left empty by the rest
Typing
A polling chain is checked eventually() and eventually_sync() were Any from the first assertion onwards
check() after a pivot has a surface first().check() landed on an untyped proxy that accepted every name
A predicate is handed the subject's type a misspelled attribute inside satisfies(lambda item: ...) was accepted by all three checkers
Frames and arrays have their own views they reached the capability umbrella and kept every assertion name there is
A pivot hands back its element at any depth the second pivot in a chain landed on the builder whatever the first returned
Fixed
A matcher that changed its mind passed the verdict was taken once and the reason asked for separately, and the second answer won
KeyboardInterrupt never reached the runner does_not_raise() swallowed it and raises() reported it as the wrong exception
The duplicate diff printed its header and nothing else a count against a value reaches neither of the groups the renderer has
Three shapes of dangling assertion went unreported a chain ending on raises(), on a pivot or on described_as() asserts nothing
An assert in front of a chain hid it from every tool a builder and a bound method are both truthy, so the line was green on any value
A vacuous pass went unwarned on anything unsized a spent generator, an empty dataclass and a re-walkable value with no length
not_ and check() accepted operations that assert nothing check().first() answered passed=True for a call that never asserted
is_subset_of() could pass over an emptied subject a superset sharing the subject's iterator left nothing to compare

One line turns the diagnostics on

[tool.pytest.ini_options]
assertpy2_profile = "safe" # dangling on, vacuous on, clusters on (default "compatible": all off)

Naming a setting yourself still wins, so safe plus assertpy2_dangling = "off" turns the other two on.

Guide: Errors and diagnostics

A failure can say whether an expectation was named

assert_that({}).is_equal_to(None)   # names one
assert_that([]).is_not_empty()      # names none

Mypy 2.2

We've just uploaded mypy 2.2.0 to the Python Package Index (PyPI). Mypy is a static type checker for Python. This release includes new features, performance improvements and bug fixes. You can install it as follows:

python3 -m pip install -U mypy

You can read the full documentation for this release on Read the Docs.

Support for Closed TypedDicts (PEP 728)

Mypy now supports closed TypedDicts as specified in PEP 728. A closed TypedDict cannot have extra keys beyond those explicitly defined. This allows the type checker to determine that certain operations are safe when they otherwise wouldn't be due to the potential presence of unknown keys.

You can use the closed keyword argument with TypedDict:

HasName = TypedDict("HasName", {"name": str})
HasOnlyName = TypedDict("HasOnlyName", {"name": str}, closed=True)
Movie = TypedDict("Movie", {"name": str, "year": int})
movie: Movie = {"name": "Nimona", "year": 2023}
has_name: HasName = movie # OK: HasName is open (default)
has_only_name: HasOnlyName = movie # Error: HasOnlyName is closed and Movie has extra "year" key
</tr></table>
