Storing currency in Databases
-
Float/Double (no go, they do not offer precision they might look good and easy to store it that way but they are not precise when the moment you start calculating they will turn into a bunch of errors) eg. 0.1 * 0.2 = 0.020000000000000004
-
Decimal / Numeric ?
- But Numeric and Decimal does not exist in J.S
- Requires us to use additional libs
- Not cross-language compatible (Requires to change the stack and find a way to support the type in the databse also)
- Create problem in end to end type safety specially when it comes to forms
- come up with a solution
Using integers of the smallest unit of the currency -We are going to use milinuts to support 3 decimals
- cross-language compatible
- $10.50 => 10500
