I've been building software since my first Hour of Code at age 10. Now I get to do it for a living!
These days I'm focused on applied AI: shipping small, opinionated products and sharing what I learn here and at my blog. Recent builds include Commons, a Claude-powered networking tool for early-career professionals, and Go Fetch, a semantic search system (RAG) designed with scalable microservice architecture.
Before this, I built backend infrastructure at ICBC, BCI, and Teck. I've shipped to real production and been on the hook when it broke, so I build systems meant to survive contact with real users.
Come follow the journey, and tell me what you're building; my inbox is open
When I'm not shipping: chasing a sub-12 second Rubik's Cube solve, and slowly running out of Vancouver Island trails (West Coast Trail and Juan de Fuca done, Mount Douglas 150+ laps and counting).
