My First Bitcoin: Open-Source Hub for Grassroots Bitcoin Education

Welcome

Welcome to the official GitHub of My First Bitcoin.

We are a global, grassroots movement focused on open-source Bitcoin education. We empower individuals worldwide with the knowledge to understand money, sovereignty, and financial independence.

We do not tell people what to think. We teach them how to think.

Everything we build is open source. Everything begins with education.

Our Mission

Equip individuals with knowledge to understand money and Bitcoin through education that is accessible, transparent, and practical.

This work is grounded in three principles:

  • Financial literacy as a foundation — Understanding how money works is fundamental
  • Independent thinking over ideology — We prioritize critical thinking, not conformity
  • Practical understanding over theory — You'll learn concepts and how to use them

Our vision: a world where individuals understand the systems they use, make informed choices, and take responsibility for their financial lives.

Four Core Programs

All programs are open source, modular, and designed for local adaptation.

1. Introduction to Bitcoin

For: Anyone new to Bitcoin and money systems Duration: Self-paced (typically 1–3 hours for PDF/Audio, or 4–6 hours for video course) Focus: Why Bitcoin exists, how money works, and how to use Bitcoin safely

A 7-module journey through monetary history, problems with today's system, and Bitcoin's response. No prerequisites. No jargon. Just clear thinking.

Curriculum: https://github.com/MyFirstBitcoin/mfb-curriculum/tree/main/programs/introduction-to-bitcoin

2. Bitcoin Diploma

For: Individuals seeking comprehensive Bitcoin mastery Duration: 8–10 weeks (flexible delivery options: in-person, online cohort, or self-paced video) Focus: Deep understanding of Bitcoin's history, technology, and societal implications

Our flagship program, implemented worldwide and continuously refined. The curriculum covers:

  • What money is and how it evolved
  • The failures of legacy monetary systems
  • Bitcoin's fundamentals and design philosophy
  • Societal, economic, and personal implications

The objective is comprehension, not persuasion.

3. Bitcoin for Juniors

For: Young learners (ages 8–12) Duration: Modular, school-friendly format Focus: Age-appropriate introduction to money, Bitcoin, and financial thinking

Designed for classrooms and community groups, making Bitcoin accessible to learners in this critical developmental window.

Curriculum: https://github.com/MyFirstBitcoin/mfb-curriculum/tree/main/programs/bitcoin-for-juniors

4. Educator Training Program (ETP)

For: Teachers, trainers, and community leaders Duration: Comprehensive certification pathway Focus: How to teach Bitcoin effectively, adapt curriculum locally, and build sustainable education initiatives

The ETP prepares educators with both content mastery and pedagogical skills. Graduates become part of our global network and lead Bitcoin education in their communities.

How We Deliver

The Release Cycle

We follow a biannual release cycle for stability and continuous improvement:

  • 26.04 (April): Innovation cycle — new features, programs, and content
  • 26.10 (October): Consolidation cycle — refinement, optimization, and stability

This rhythm ensures we innovate while maintaining educational quality.

AI-Powered Translation & Adaptation Pipeline

Our 2026 innovation: automated design, translation, and localization.

  • Single source of truth: All content lives in one repository
  • AI translation: Content is automatically translated to 40+ languages
  • Volunteer review: Native speakers proofread for accuracy and cultural fit
  • Automated design: Translated content flows directly to publishing platforms
  • Result: High-quality, localized education at scale

This infrastructure means educators worldwide can use the curriculum in their own language and context — without waiting months for manual translation.

Global Network

Online School: https://edu.myfirstbitcoin.io/

  • 20,000+ users and 50+ online classrooms
  • Self-paced learning pathways

Community Hub: https://network.myfirstbitcoin.io

  • 1,000+ verified educators and contributors
  • Resource sharing, translation collaboration, community discussion

Node Network (Q1 2026 snapshot):

  • 83 active communities (7 Full Nodes + 76 Light Nodes)
  • 29 communities in onboarding (pre-Node)
  • 7 new communities joined in Q1 2026
  • 85 active translators
  • 115 total communities in network
  • Active in 36+ countries

This network is decentralized by design and locally driven. Each community operates independently while connecting to the larger movement.

What Guides Us

Open-Source Everything

All core materials are freely available and openly licensed:

  • Curriculum and teaching resources
  • Program structures and guides
  • Lesson plans and activity designs

Why? Decentralized education is more resilient. Open systems enable adaptation, independent implementation, and continuous improvement.

Grassroots, Independent

As of April 2025, we stepped back from partnerships with the Ministry of Education (MINED) and The Bitcoin Office in El Salvador. We are grateful for those opportunities and proud of what we built together.

Today, we focus exclusively on grassroots Bitcoin education — working directly with educators, communities, and individuals who want to learn independently.

Community at the Center

The flywheel of impact: Precoiner → Bitcoin Student → Bitcoiner → Certified Bitcoiner → Bitcoin Educator → Certified Bitcoin Educator → Bitcoin Community Leader → Ambassador

Real evidence from Q1 2026:

  • Felix → Destiny → Bitcoin Sisonke & Bitcoin Aves — Two generations of educators in Africa, each building new communities
  • Nairobi Unconference — 727 registered attendees, African educator network gathered in person for four days of open-space sessions, workshops, and peer learning
  • Bitcoin Amantikir (Brazil) — Newly onboarded community running the Escola Amantikir de Educação Financeira e Transformação Pessoal, reaching ages 12–18, with 83+ local Bitcoin merchants
  • Fundación Niños de los Andes (Bogotá) — Bitcoin Diploma delivered in-person to youth in shelters for abandoned/orphan children, in partnership with Paystand

The communities are the distribution layer. We convene. Educators teach.
