What is Priam?
Priam is a co-process that runs alongside Cassandra on every node to provide the following functionality:
Perform backups and recovery
Automated token assignment
Configuration management
Provide REST API to query cassandra metrics
The name 'Priam' refers to the King of Troy, in Greek mythology, who was the father of Cassandra.
Priam has been in use at Netflix since mid 2011. It currently supports running Cassandra in AWS environment. Jason Brown (@jasobrown) has given a presentation on Priam, and the slides may serve as a reasonable introduction.
