Mission Impossible adds a quest system to The Long Dark that gives you daily, weekly, and monthly goals to work towards. Think of it like a survival checklist that rewards you for accomplishing objectives.
Instead of just wandering and surviving aimlessly, you now have a reason to search for specific items - and you get rewards for doing it!
- Daily Quest - "Collect 6 sticks before tomorrow 9 AM"
- Weekly Quest - "Collect 8 scrap metal by next week"
- Monthly Quest - "Gather 16 pieces of cloth this month"
You accomplish these by simply playing normally - pick up items you find, and the mod automatically tracks your progress. When each period ends (tomorrow, next week, next month), you automatically receive a reward - maybe food, ammunition, clothes, or tools.
- New quest every morning at 9 AM
- Due by next morning at 9 AM (24 hours)
- Easier tasks, quicker rewards
- Great for steady progression
- New quest every Monday at 9 AM
- Due in 7 days
- Harder challenges
- Bigger rewards
- New quest at the start of each month
- Due in 30 days
- Toughest challenges
- Best rewards
- Complete a quest by the deadline? Get a reward!
- Didn't finish? No punishment - a new quest just generates
- Rewards scale to your difficulty (easier difficulties = more generous rewards)
- Choose how many quests you want - Want 3 daily quests instead of 1? Easy!
- Adjust difficulty scaling - Make quests easier or harder
- Toggle quest types - Only want daily quests? Turn off weekly/monthly
- Show/hide reward details - Keep it a surprise or see what you're working for

Q: What if I don't complete a quest on time?
A: No penalty! A new quest simply generates. The incomplete quest is removed.
Q: Can I see what reward I'll get before completing the quest?
A: By default, no - but you can enable it in your Mod Settings!
Q: Do quests get harder as I progress?
A: The mod scales based on game difficulty, not your progress. Higher difficulties = harder quests + better rewards.
Q: Can I turn off specific quest types?
A: Yes! Disable daily, weekly, or monthly quests individually in Mod settings.
Q: Will this mod affect my save?
A: No. All quest data is stored separately. You can remove the mod anytime without losing progress.
Q: What if I want to reset all quests?
A: Change any Settings in Mod Setting - new quests generate immediately.
- Play normally - Quests work best when you just play the game. The mod tracks pickups automatically.
- Difficulty affects quests - Playing Interloper? Expect harder quests but better rewards. Playing Pilgrim? Easier quests, more forgiving.
- Check back regularly - New quests spawn every day/week/month at 9 AM. Check in to see what's next!
- Stock items - If you know a weekly quest wants wolf pelts, grab them when you can. Rewards aren't time-sensitive after completion.
- Always new goals - Quest system runs infinitely. Every completed quest spawns a new one.
Mission Impossible is designed to enhance your survival experience without forcing you to play a certain way. Just survive, complete quests when you can, and enjoy the extra rewards! Questions? Issues? Visit the GitHub repository for support.
