Subject: Improvement for MAME iOS: Enable Input Support for Layout (.lay) Files #487

Description

@zhuzhoujenson1981-max

Hi,

I’ve been testing the latest iOS version of MAME and noticed that while .lay (Layout) files load visually, they do not support touch input commands.

To be honest, the built-in virtual keyboard provides a poor user experience, especially for specialized games like Mahjong or tabletop titles that require complex button matrices. Instead of trying to improve a generic keyboard, the best solution would be to enable full input support for .lay files.

By opening up the input mapping for Layouts, you allow the community to create and share game-specific skins. This would:

Significantly improve the experience for hundreds of games (Mahjong, Poker, etc.).

Allow creators like myself to contribute high-quality, pixel-perfect controllers (I currently have 155 completed layouts ready to go).

Reduce the burden on you to design multiple keyboard layouts.

Please consider bridging the layout touch events to the I/O port system. Let the players and creators help make this emulator the best it can be.

Best regards,
