los-gui and vasl class decompilation problems

I'm trying to los-enable the FB map. I need to modify code in Map.java and ASLMap.java. I rebuild using Maven and copy the jar from my VASL project to the lib folder on my los-gui project. I then open the los-gui project but when it decompiles the Map class it doesn't show my changes. Anyone, @derimmer? @zgrose? Buehler? with any thoughts or suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? TIA

Your build probably wasn't building off your modified source files, is the most obvious explanation.

I considered that possibility. I introduced a syntax error and the build failed as expected. I backed out the error and the build succeeded.

Ok, I'm missing a piece then. You're in the los-gui project to edit the source files. Why do you then say you "open the los-gui project" when you're literally in it already?

I am editing the source files in VASL. I am debugging los-gui which decompiles the classes from VASL when I try to step into them. At least I think that is how it all is supposed to work.

K, it's a bit too late today, but did you want to screen share at some point over the weekend or next week? I suspect you're just off by one setting somewhere and seeing your setup in real-time might be the fastest way to resolve. Probably a zoom connection. Nothing to buy and we get 30-40 of screen sharing

Sorry, got busy with work. I'm in Houston so same timezone. I can do today anytime before 6pm.
It's probably a classpath issue where you have an older jar before the newer one in the order.

Also, slightly related, is there a reason we can't just put those classes into the VASL source and compile them together? Cut out the middleman, so to speak.

No problem. I am available this afternoon as well. As far as any VASL/los-gui questions, that is far beyond my level of understanding. I am just trying to add support for new HASL maps which unfortunately require custom code.

I would very much like to do so. The issue is that if I (or anyone else) make changes to VASL los code to fix bugs, then I have to remember to fix them in los-gui in parallel. While this is not hard, it seems like a high-risk strategy in that people will defer updating losgui to a later date that never comes. But maybe it is still better than the stuff we have to do now. I have been putting this off to see if I can come up with a good strategy. I think I should just do it.

Actually, I think I misunderstood your suggestion @zgrose. I took it to mean that we would copy to vasl classes to losgui. What you are actually saying is do the reverse, Integrate losgui into vasl. It would be easy to hide from the uninitiated. Yes, I can see this working and VASL is still a very small module.

So now that I have a better understanding of your flow, what might be even easier to do is just point the los-gui project to the vasl built classes. Allows you to skip the entire package and copy/paste.

I'm going to be travelling over the next week, but if you want to do a little refactoring later in the month, we could do that.

As for why you can't have two projects open, I think you clicked the Do not ask me again button.

I would suggest you swap to Ask or New Window instead so that you can have both projects up at the same time.
