Please describe the nominee’s contributions to PyTorch Foundation projects and communities
I have carried out extensive research in Computer Vision using different deep learning models and frameworks in Pytorch. Attached are two of my published papers on camshaft defect detection and printed circuit board defect detection. Two of my recently graduated MS research students (Ms Noor Shabir and Ms Ume Kalsoom) at Institute of Information Technology, Quaid i Azam University, Islamabad worked on Brain hippocampus segmentation and wrist fracture detection respectively. They are currently working on publishing their research.

Why does the nominee want to become a PyTorch Foundation Ambassador?
I am an academic and am currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Information Technology, Quaid i Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan since October 2024. At IIT, QAU, I teach different courses to BS IT and MS/PhD IT students. Prior to this I served at the Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the SZABIST University, Islamabad, Pakistan where I taught to BS AI and MS Data Science students. I have supervised several MS research and BS Final year students.
I have a deep passion for computer programming and Machine Learning. In the Machine Learning and Deep Learning courses (Computer Vision, ANNs, Deep Learning, NLP, MLOPs etc) that I teach to undergraduate and graduate students, I passionately guide them through practical, hands-on projects and encourage them to continue developing their practical ML coding skills, particularly with PyTorch. I emphasize the importance of implementing models, understanding the underlying mechanics, and experimenting with real-world datasets. Many of my students have gone on to pursue research or industry roles where PyTorch is their primary framework, and I take pride in fostering their growth as independent learners and contributors to the open-source community.
I have also conducted Machine Learning boot camps for industry professionals and have done many workshops at different universities in Islamabad. Becoming a PyTorch Foundation Ambassador will be a great confidence boost for me and it will enable me to train the young minds with even more zeal and vigor.
How would this nominee contribute as a PyTorch Foundation Ambassador?
I am support and grow PyTorch Foundation projects and communities by:
Organizing community events
Mentoring contributors
Educational outreach
Technical advocacy
Supporting local or global AI communities
I will hold workshops at Quaid i Azam University and other universities in Pakistan where my focus will be on developing hands on skills of the undergrad and graduate students.
