People should not invite all members to a new channel. Add a recommended new channel process, for example:

• create channel
• add meaningful description
• advertise the channel in #elephpant (no more than once a week)

Might be good if there was an automatic list of channels and their topics on slack.phpaustralia.org. I'm happy to contribute to that. And if not automatic, then a github file that the channel creator can open a pull request for inclusion.

Nice idea, would give insight in to what's there. Perhaps a manual curated list though, via the PR method? The inviter code is at https://github.com/phpaustralia/Slack-Inviter
