simplified_chinese compile failure

Installed texlive texlive-science latex-cjk-english
The following errors have been encountered when using pdflatex pcasm

Did you try to rerun it, as suggested in pcasm.tex?

That log file was generated on your second run?

EDIT: Well, I got just the same error on a Ubuntu 20.04.1. I'm currently looking into it, I come back if I find something.

I tried many things but was not able to compile this on Ubuntu.

Files are encoded in GBK, I tried gbkpdflatex but it didn't work. I tried an utf-8 conversion, still the same errors. I checked quite everything that I could think of. The best I have been able to obtain is with my utf-8 files using xelatex pcasm.tex and
it is bad.

At this point I begin to think it is an issue with CJK. Your log shows that it breaks at \maketitle but mine does break at \CJKcaption and then I have the same \maketitle errors.
