I have a really strange situation, I'm perfectly able to ssh from console to the remote node, but wire is not able to and says the ping failed. On verbose I see exact ssh command issued by wire, when I copy and paste it into the same console I run wire, it connects. Wire doesn't.

What is going on? I'm using private keys for ssh auth. Colmena runs without issues in the same environment.

two fairly low confidence suggestions:

1. ive observed how different users/programs may end up with different DNS resolvers, that can cause such failures. is deployment.target.host a domain name? if it is, can you briefly try an IP address instead?
2. Maybe the public key auth fails/times out for some reason. Can you specify whether you use local/file-based private SSH keys or a SSH agent?
   • If your private keys are just normal files in e.g. ~/.ssh/id_rsa, do they have a passphrase? (maybe wire is failing to show a prompt to enter the passphrase for some reason?)
   • If you use a SSH agent (e.g. GNOME Keyring, KWallet, 1Password SSH agent, gpg-agent, ...) maybe it is failing/timing out for some reason?

Posting the (verbose) logs here may be helpful too

I use keys located in ~/.ssh/ without passphrases. I use IP addresses as hosts. In the verbose logs there is simply nothing interesting, it prints a ssh command which is correct and should connect wire but it does not.

What is interesting though, I can see discrepancy between my .ssh/config file and the command line in the debug output. In my config I have explicitly set master=false but in debug i can see wire setting master=true. It probably means that wire is ignoring or even obstructing ssh config, why is that? Why it can't be transparent and do exactly what ssh client configuration says?

If I deliberately create an invalid host, i get a log lines from SSH:

Does SSH really say nothing? This is certainly a bug in that case if colmena has no problem.
