Misleading “Most Common” Label for Intel Mac Download on Docker Hub #2519

Description

@bjoernahrens

When a logged-in user visits the repositories page at https://hub.docker.com/repositories/my-username, a banner is shown with the message:
“Welcome to Docker – Download the desktop application.”

The banner presents two download options:

  • Mac with Intel chip (labeled as “MOST COMMON”)
  • Mac with Apple chip

The “MOST COMMON” label for Intel-based Macs appears outdated.

Apple has transitioned to its own silicon, and Intel-based Macs are no longer the dominant platform.

According to Apple, the current macOS release (macOS 26 Tahoe) is the final major version supporting Intel-based Macs. See Apple's documentation.

While I don't have access to Docker Hub usage data, analytics from Homebrew (IMO a comparable technology regarding developer usage) show that downloads on Apple Silicon Macs are approximately 2.5× higher than on Intel Macs:
https://formulae.brew.sh/analytics/homebrew-os-arch-ci/30d/

Suggested changes:

  • Remove the “MOST COMMON” label from the Intel option, or
  • Reassign it to the Apple Silicon option, or
  • Remove the banner entirely if it is no longer relevant

Impact:
The current labeling may mislead users about which version is more appropriate for modern macOS systems.
