Add or link to non-EU map region files

I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf from the US and noticed the wiki which has information on Updating Map Data.

I noticed this here:

WARNING! $\color{Red}{\textsf{Mismatching regions (example: US -> EU, JP -> US, JP -> EU) has not been tested, most likely it won't work. Try at your own risk!}}$

When I clicked on the link above doesn't have anything outside the EU.
The warning above implies that maps for other regions would exist on that web page.

The plan is to have other regions, so far nobody has shared any files :) I have uploaded files that I've extracted myself or sent to me online.

If you or anyone has images or map files, I'd happily put them up.

Welp, I guess I have to wait. I'm still on the original map version on my Leaf. Guess I have to use Google Maps for now.

It would be kinda interesting to see someone try to make custom maps on the Leaf with something like OpenStreetMaps data. But it would also require heaps of reverse engineering.

Yeah, Nissan stopped releasing maps as of 2020 and 2020 Q1 is the last map update available for 2016 models.

The map format is similar enough between 2016-2020 models, I believe with some work it would be possible to port them to work on older systems. The only real limit is lack of storage space on the SD. Original cards have capacity of 8 gb, I haven't found a way yet to resize the data partition.

Oh and to mention, from 30 kWh leaf onward until 2020 when SD slot was removed, the SD card is not locked and can be copied with ease.

I unfortunately don't have usa maps, if somebody has it, please send a link to it, I will include it

I expressed myself incorrectly. I only have US maps installed on my car, but I'm in Europe. I wanted to ask how to install European maps if the car is in the USA.

No idea yet unfortunately :) I'd like to get my hands on US model navigation unit and try to get EU maps working.

The files can be copied but there are other limitations in the operating system that needs to be patched to european version

Does the map update is purchasable in a dealer or it’s exclusively on-line? Look to be challenging if it’s only on-line since not many people buy it from what I inderstand. Do you think Clarion sells them?

Iv’e looked at it briefly. It’s unfortunately not worth the effort. Getting CarPlay for SV/SL units seem’s more worth it. I wrote to a guy with the latest map for north america but he didn’t believed we could unlock it.

We found EU map data from 2022 actually yesterday :) it just needs few adjustments to work on the older navigation systems. So all hope is not lost yet

Not all of us have a compatible phone, and it is often more convenient to have the car completely standalone from the phone for navigation, especially if you are having to pay high fees for data where you are or don't have good coverage.

I very much doubt that the map format can't be unlocked, but these things do take a lot of time. I can believe that Nissan would have taken steps to make it difficult.

I can shine some light on this carplay situation. What many russian based companies do, is very simple modification from technical standpoint. They have copied the firmware of ZE1 vehicles with Android Auto and CarPlay, and installed this firmware on 30 kWh vehicles. This is why timers do not exist on these modded firmwares, they are not present on ZE1 :)

LeafSDTools is one tool, that could help us do that. Since it provides the way to write to the internal memory, NAND. This has not been possible or documented at all. Even though code execution on these leafs seems to have existed since around 2018 or so. This project is exactly filling this gap.
