Both MyST and Quarto accept roles for authors. It would be great to utilize that information to automatically produce a block/part that states the author contributions. Something akin to this format maybe, but with the standardised terminology:
Conceptualization: E.M.M., A.S.D.F., J.E.N.; Methodology: E.M.M., A.S.D.F., J.E.N.; Experimental investigation: E.M.M., A.S.D.F.; Statistical analysis – design : E.M.M., J.E.N.; Statistical analysis – implementation : E. M.M.; Data curation: E.M.M., A.S.D.F; Writing – original draft: E.M.M., J.E.N.; Writing – review & editing: E.M.M., A.S.D.F., A.J.A.S., J.E.N.; Visualisation: E.M.M., J.E.N.; Project administration: E.M.M., J.E.N.; Funding acquisition: A.J.A.S., J.E.N.
I guess that would require that pubmatter reads the roles (I don't know if it currently does?) and a function that can generate author abbreviations (the show-contributions could maybe have a boolean parameter for whether to abbreviate names).
Alternatively would be generating a contribution table, but I reckon that's more work.
