Problem

For me adding mcp servers to claude code using the .mcp.json file - i needed to add "type": "http" to the installation to get it to start.

Final working contents of .mcp.json:

## Connecting to Claude Code

Add the following to your `.mcp.json` configuration file:

      "url": "https://<your-worker-name>.<your-subdomain>.workers.dev/sse"
    }
  }
}
```

Then restart Claude Code to pick up the new server.

A couple of notes that might save folks some time:

• The "type": "http" field is required — without it, Claude Code defaults to assuming a stdio transport and the connection will silently fail.
• If your worker uses authentication, you can add a "headers" object alongside "url" to pass an Authorization bearer token.
• The /sse path is the default route that @cloudflare/agents exposes for MCP; adjust if you've customized your routing.

Hope this helps move the docs forward — happy to open a PR with the change if that would be useful.

+1 I wasn't able to see the cloudflare MCP show up in claude code until adding the http type as well.
