maybe caused by using gedit: after saving the modified python file, with python 2.7 it also started to complain on usage of Unicode instead of char on lines like
srwl.ResizeElecField(wfr,'f',...)
using str('f') helps

not really. it looks like something 'unsicher' with the new lines:
main branch from afs installation latest/ generates no import errors
