The fate of the Qt frontend

I wonder if anybody still cares about qapple, the Qt frontend of AppleWin?

It has fallen behind with configuration, and I personally never use it.

I could be convinced otherwise, but it is probably time to axe it.

I just recently found the Linux ports of AppleWin when AppleWin started to have issues under WINE for some reason (I'm hoping 10.0 will fix these issues). However, I was delighted to find native ports for Linux which I prefer. I especially like qapple because the UI is clean, professional, and works great under Wayland. It even obeys scaling unlike sa2 (the fonts are hopelessly tiny).

My only three issues with qapple:
-no sound (which works well under sa2)
-I wish there was a button to insert/eject/swap disks instead of menu/options/disks
-I wish the emulator window would open maximized within the frame window.

Unless it is a burden to keep it around I hope you do. As I said, the UI is well done and works the way people appreciate. So many Linux applications are hindered by their UI but you have done an outstanding job!

About sound: I cannot make it work with Qt6, but Qt5 is ok. Which version did you use?

sa2 is anyway a much better program, but I know about the font size, I need to make it scalable.

BTW what is your WINE issue? I use 9 and it works well.

I'm on Qt6 under KDE Plasma 6 so that is probably why sound doesn't work.

If you resolve the font issue with sa 2 that would be great. I have tried to work around it but nothing I have done seems to make the fonts bigger.

That is a great question about WINE. AppleWin used to work great under it, and suddenly is runs extremely slow. I checked the prefs, cleared the registry, and reset to defaults, but it is still extremely slow (and I mean slow). However, I also run WinUAE, Altirra, and Classic99 and they all work perfectly under this bottle of WINE. I honestly have no idea what happened.

I am on 9.22 so I was hoping that 10 might resolve the issue with AppleWin.

What distro do you run? I made the switch to CachyOS (from EndeavourOS) and have been thrilled with the speed.

You might want to open an Issue upstream to AppleWin with as much information as possible. Other people use it with Wine.

Thank you for the update! However, I cannot get the audio to work. It compiles fine, but there is no audio. I did git clone https://github.com/audetto/AppleWin.git --recursive and then source/linux/build.sh.

Did you update SA2? The fonts are larger now and I can use it without squinting! :-) The audio works perfectly here.

I figured out my sound issue with AppleWin and WINE. If I change the DPI from 96 to anything almost usable the sound stutters. If I leave it at 96 it works great but I can't read anything.

I have not touched sa2.
On the other hand, qapple should now play sound in Qt6. If it does not, run the emulator, "Window->Audio Info" and copy here the diagnostics. (and make sure the volume is not 0 (Tools->Options->Audio).

And if you maximise the window inside the MDI area, its positions is restored.

The previous problem was that "state was not 0 (i.e. active)", it would become 3 (idle) and effectively stop.

But you seem to have a healthy emulator: speed and target should quickly converge, mine is like this

you could try to add these lines after the QAudioSink is created
