This was fixed in #483, @marshallshoeb but it hasn't made its way into a new release. It looks like there hasn't been an updated release of this plugin for several years. GitHub | WP.org

@carolinan, @kafleg, and team: Do you know if there are plans to release an updated ZIP of the plugin, both here and on WP.org? I am developing a theme and want to make sure it's passing everything it should! Sorry to take over this GH issue; happy to start a new one if that's better.

There has not been any discussions about what a new release should include, or when it would be released.

The theme requirements are the same regardless of the plugin and you must not rely on the plugin alone.
