Native Linux release?

We Linux CMDRs would very much appreciate something compiled for Linux and released on a repo. Making ED tools like this work with Wine is jank and barely functional.

I’d make a PR myself but I really don’t know how to C#. I’ll see if I can work it out today but in the meanwhile it would be incredible to see a Linux binary.

Dotnet is supported on Linux so it should be a matter of small tweaks and setting up Github actions to compile both.

I'll have a look at it. The only Linux install I have at the moment is a headless server, as I'm old and Linux gaming is still a bit of an oxymoron to me. I have some windows os specific code in there but I shall see what I can do. Guess it's time to set up a dual boot.

Hey I really appreciate the willingness to do something, Linux is extremely neglected within the Elite Dangerous community which sucks since Valve has been putting such a monumental effort into Proton.

Of all cross platform frontend frameworks I'd probably use Flutter for this. I've had wonderful experiences with it basically everywhere.

In terms of ease of use you could check out Flutter. Cross platform friendly and so long as you can wrap your mind around the 'everything is a widget' concept it's got a pretty damn smooth workflow.
Or there's always Avalonia as Draconb said.

I just wanted to come and chime in as someone who has done professional WPF and an active SO member within WPF chat (back when it was active!), unfortunately WPF as amazing as it was never had any hope to transition into cross platform.

Thankfully, Avalonia (I've linked to linux specifically but they're cross platform) has a straight forward migration path (I haven't done this myself yet, but I've been with two companies that did their research and reached the same conclusion and went into talks with Avalonia company for migration plan).

The biggest reason to go down this path over flutter or others is that Avalonia was built for this specific reason and you can take all your experience and transition it over instead of having to relearn a brand new framework & language (Flutter is not C# but Dart which is a career shift for a .net developer).

Secondly, you can do your development on windows and not have to do ongoing debugging on linux as the platform itself is both mature at this point and is transparent for the developer for cross platform needs.

I'm rusty in WPF (having been away for nearly a decade now as the industry shifted), but I'd consider lending a hand with this as and when I might be able to but it is not exactly a trivial effort (For example there's nuance in RelativeBinding in WPF vs Avalonia that you'll only discover through the pain of debugging - this was the experience of a fellow developer who was transitioning their app about 10 years back, it may have smoothed out now). Even more so if you're going to rip the stack apart and start over.

I looked into Flutter and Avalonia. Looked like Avalonia wouldn't mean a complete write, though it pretty much ended up being one :D There are several things I do with the UI that it doesn't support directly, but I managed to work around them for the most part.

I manage to cobble together a beta if you, good people, would like to test it for me. Most of the functions should be there. There are no overlays of notifications yet. It seems making a window click through on Linux is a whole can of worms. The only Linux machine I have here, though, is a headless server so I'm tried loading it in a VM and it seems to work though I can't run the game in there.

So please test and let me know how many bugs there are, please :D

Thanks, I see the issue. Something Windows was fine with, but Linux didn't like. Fortunately, it was an easy fix

Where should this be installed? I tried home>local>share>steam>steamapps>common>Elite Dangerous.
How do I know its working?

You don't install it. Install .net 9 and run ODEliteTracker

Looks like the issue is IPv6 listening for some reason (or Host parsing). I swapped "localhost" to "127.0.0.1" and that worked. I haven't looked at how the oauth is being handled to assist with a suggested fix.

First of all, this is an awesome app and thanks for making it native linux...I am noticing there is a visual bug with massacre missions view in the table in the lower right:

I did some troubleshooting, and no amount of forcing sizes makes the table display...I even tried disabling my display scaling, and trying it again and it didn't work. For the record I am at 170% display scaling(god getting old sucks).

I am a noob at axml, but I would guess it has to do with the minimum size of this panel.

Just FYI, after this last Elite update, the "Active Missions" list in empty - in both the windows and linux versions.
[Edit] After a few days it appears to be working again. Perhaps there was some journals mishap around the release day for Operations.

[Edit]: Is there a public repository for the linux version? If yes, I'd like to contribute if I can, mostly if I find something like this that I can fix.
