Hey all! Hopefully I'm doing this right. I accidentally closed the other thread, whoops ._.
Feature request
Would it be possible to handle gamepad input from a controller, like how Bedrock edition handled VR with an Xbox controller when not using the VR hands?
Background
I play Minecraft seated, in VR, using an Xbox series controller. I have been playing on the last version of bedrock that supported VR (downgraded client) but I'm investigating Vivecraft (EDIT: I believe version 1.21.11-1.3.7).
For anyone not familiar, Bedrock in VR with an Xbox controller basically uses the HMD to aim the crosshair and controls as the game normally would otherwise in flatscreen (exception: right stick does not pitch up or down either, same as Vivecraft).
Issues
Currently using MidnightControls with Vivecraft and steam overlay remapping I can get close to that, but run into a few problems:
- When using any controller plugins (MidnightControls, Controllable, etc) with Vivecraft the rotation features don't work which is why I have to use the steam control remapping features. That allows me to use the right stick to turn/rotate the player.
- Navigating the inventory with controller mods and the crosshair set to follow the HMD creates a conflict where the crosshair gets stuck in the top left of the screen unless I use the mouse to navigate.
Possible Solutions
Overall there's a few possible approaches I could see to solve this:
- Allow turning off HMD control when in the inventory to avoid conflicting with controller mods. That said I'd actually prefer to use the HMD to aim and then select with controller like in Bedrock.
- Integrate controller input as an option like mouse and keyboard so that no external mods are required. More complicated probably but better user experience.
- Allow VR hands in seated mode. While this doesn't actually solve the issue I think this could help as an alternative as well.
- If someone already has a successful setup that works in the way I'm describing by adjusting settings or using mods I'm open to hearing how you've got things setup.
Thanks for your time!
P.S. if I find any solutions I'll update this post
