Migration to Qt6

Standard support for Qt5 ended on 26th of May 2025. I was wondering if there are any plans on migrating to Qt6 in the near future.

I saw a fork (https://github.com/lpechacek/mapper/tree/master-qt6) with a migration commit to Qt6. I don't know if this migration is fully working.

Not sure what kind of details are expected for "any plans". As you noticed, the switch is necessary due to Qt5 being EOL.

But the full story is not just making Mapper compile. It is also necesary to update the whole toolchain and build process. With Windows, macOS and Android, we cannot simply rely on preinstalled libraries like on Linux. There are formal duties with distributing the binary artifacts. Fortunately, there is even some choice how to deal with this now.

Another concern is Mapper's PDF/CMYK customization for Qt5. It worked well enough to be used as an example for what QGIS should offer. QGIS eventually managed to find sponsors to bring necessary changes even to Qt - but it was not available before Qt 6.8.

But with Qt 6.8, it will also be necessary to raise the requirements for devices running Mapper, maybe more than some people expect.

I’m sorry if my question sounded vague or bothersome that was not my intention. I was simply wondering whether a migration to Qt6 is something that might happen in the near future (months), or whether there are currently no concrete plans and it might be considered much later (for example in a few years).

Just to clarify, I’m not a professional C++ developer.
