When Adguard connects to Adguard VPN (when the VPN is turned on) it automatically activates the proxy to connect to it.
Device -> Adguard -> proxy -> VPN -> internet
When the Adguard VPN is disconnected the route automatically drops to Device -> Adguard -> internet ... & internet access works as usual.

Using a proxy that is not Adguard VPN means that the proxy connection is not automated & has to use one is of the 2 routes described above unless manually changed. This means that either the VPN is never used, or that the route when the VPN disconnects is Device -> Adguard -> proxy -> connection fails

(No VPN with a proxy currently supports passing all connections through it transparently when there is no VPN tunnel active)

Tasker can change the proxy setting in Adguard when the proxy (VPN) becomes active, or inactive, recreating the way that Adguard works with Adguard VPN & avoiding the need to manually change settings to match your VPN connection state.
