Bug Description
After a recent LG TV firmware update to version 43.21.62, ColorControl is completely unable to connect to the TV or trigger the on-screen pairing/authorization pop-up prompt.
A full application reset was attempted by completely deleting the local configuration cache folder, but upon relaunching and manually adding the TV, the application still fails to establish a handshake.
Crucially, LGTV Companion is still functioning perfectly fine on the exact same PC and local network setup, confirming that the TV's network stack, port availability, and network accessibility are fully functional. The handshake failure appears isolated specifically to ColorControl's authentication pass.
Steps to Reproduce
- Update LG TV firmware to public deployment version 43.21.62.
- Open ColorControl.
- Manually input the TV's verified IP address and MAC address.
- Click "Connect" or attempt to trigger an authorization pass.
- Observe that no pairing dialog or pop-up message appears on the LG TV screen, and the application reports a connection failure.
Troubleshooting Attempted So Far (All Failed)
To rule out local environmental issues, the following isolation steps were performed:
- Cache & Profile Purge: Completely closed the app and deleted the local data repository directory at
%appdata%\Maassoft\ColorControl to eliminate a corrupted token loop.
- Registry Check: Inspected
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ColorControl for orphaned keys, confirming no stray data remains in the registry backend.
- Administrative Privileges: Ran
ColorControl.exe explicitly via "Run as administrator" to bypass basic Windows OS credential blocks.
- Network Profile Verification: Confirmed that the local Windows network connection profile is strictly set to Private and verified that Network Discovery remains actively turned ON.
- Manual Alignment: Bypassed automatic scanning entirely to input the exact, working IP and MAC address pairing utilized by LGTV Companion. Checked formatting variations using both colons and hyphens.
- Service Verification: Checked for orphaned background services in Task Manager to ensure a stale background thread wasn't locking down the application network socket.
Expected Behavior
The TV screen should show the standard webOS on-screen external application authorization prompt to provide ColorControl a fresh security handshake token.
Environment & Hardware Setup
- TV Model: LG C6 42" OLED
- TV Firmware: 43.21.62
- App Version: 11.0.0.0
- OS Platform: Windows
- Network Layout: Local private network setup (Network Discovery active, Private profile verified).
- Working Baseline: LGTV Companion connects and executes power states properly.
