Automated install script

Hey guys,

any chance that you can make an installation script where users on self hosted can run it and will be prompted with all requirement steps like, insert domain, choose db password etc? and the script can do magic automation behind to do all necessary configuration, run the docker etc?

spent more than 2 hours to make it work, and still not working. use the docker installer. issues with the redis that actually looking for breeze-redis format, issue with caddy config, issues with setting ap url_api..... i just gave up.

followed your instructions, not working. used AI to make parts working but failing to do other fixes.

Not on the immediate roadmap, but a community contribution would be welcome — and if you want help getting through the self-hosted install in the meantime, hit me up on Discord and I'll walk you through it.

Today the self-hosted path is the docker-compose stack in the repo root — docker-compose.yml + one of the override files (.dev / .ghcr / .local-build). That's the supported install surface, and the README walks through it.

An interactive script that prompts for domain / DB password / etc., writes a .env, and runs docker compose up -d would be a nice quality-of-life win — particularly for people who aren't already comfortable in compose-land. If you (or anyone reading this) wants to PR one:

• Keep it pure shell or pure Python-stdlib (no extra deps to bootstrap).
• Generate a .env from .env.example, don't bake values into a fork of the compose file.
• Default to the .ghcr override (pre-built images) — that's the path most self-hosted users want.
• Don't bake in any region-specific or internal-infra values; everything goes through .env.

Closing the loop here: the automated self-hosted install experience this thread asked for has now landed.

• Guided self-hosted setup (feat: Add self-hosted guided setup #1140) merged 2026-06-14 — an interactive installer that prompts for domain / DB / config, writes the .env, and brings up the stack, so you're no longer hand-editing compose files.
• Public install scripts (fix[web][api]: agent install and uninstall scripts are publicly available and cleaned up #1310) merged 2026-06-14 — install.sh / uninstall are now served publicly (this also fixed the 401 some folks hit, tracked in [API] install.sh is not available #1309).

Both ship in the next release after v0.70.0. Thanks @ramphex for the contribution (#1140) and @aftechro for raising it. Closing as resolved — please open a fresh issue if you hit snags with the guided installer.
