Failed to load world issue after patch 53.13

I recently started a new fortress on the latest patch, and i'm finding that legends viewer can't load the world. Tried multiple exports and nothing seems to work. I'm guessing it's because it doesn't know how to handle the new messenger diplomacy events, but i'm not sure. I also can't seem to find any error reports or anything like that, so would someone who's more familiar with the viewer be able to help?

Hi, I encountered this too today, on my very first time using Legends Viewer. I saw a Steam post that mentioned that the exports are mal-formed if you've used the new diplomacy features.

Fortunately the server sent back a helpful error message.

The malformed section was inside a historical_event with:

first contact

The broken XML was:

make contact</topic
improve trade</topic

The first closing topic tag was missing the final >.

I made a copy of the XML export and fixed it with a find/replace so it became:

make contact
improve trade

make contact</topic improve trade</topic

could you post the legends xml to pastebin or similar and post here?

If this is a legends xml export bug there is probably nothing that can be done except report upstream until dfhack or Dwarf Fortress fixes their exports. AFAIK missing fields would just be ignored or appear as an unknown historical event, but malformed xml would probably break everything.

To say it with sed:

sed -i 's|</topic$|</topic>|g' "<filename>"

Wow! This is the first time anyone has spoken to me in "programmer language," and I actually had to use ChatGPT to translate it. I fixed the missing brackets, and now the file opens perfectly. Thanks!

Please note this has been fixed in the latest version of Dwarf Fortress (53.16), please do a world export with your old save if you still have it and report back 🙏
