PW 5th gen experimental browser won't load winterbreak2 page

I'm trying to jailbreak my boyfriend's old PW 5th gen. It is deregistered, so I'm stuck using winterbreak2, but the experimental browser won't load anything except for the Google homepage.

When I try to go to an address through the address bar, I get the "there was a problem loading this page" screen. If I try to use Google, I get a 403 error that says my client does not have permission to get the URL from this server.

Any way I can fix this?

Your question is about winterbreak2, but it is posted in the WinterBreak repository. I think there is a separate repo for winterbreak2.

But as it happens, I believe that for a PW 5th gen, it is in fact winterbreak that you need. I have the same kindle and I was trying to use winterbreak2 and getting the error you describe. When I tried winterbreak, I was able to get it to work. You will probably have to register your kindle before you start.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem. My 5th Gen Kindle, PW1 (FW 5.,6.1.1) was initially registered, but I had some trouble during the WinterBreak process and after trying everything else, kindlemodding.org suggested as a last resort that I factory reset it, so I did, but now Amazon won't let me register my device. And so now I'm stuck with WinterBreak2, and the Experimental Browser also isn't loading the winterbreak2 webpage.

Is there anyway to bypass this? or is my device now bricked?

Can you access any other website in the experimental browser?
ie, try: https://kindlemodding.org

Same problem as aleggc. I can access https://kindlemodding.org/ but only the homepage, not https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking for example.

I also have the same issue. I have a PW 5th gen, tried WB first to have it not get me the hot fix page, leaves off on the Jailbreaking - Please Wait...tried all the tricks, having WIFI off for this process, on, re loading, deleting the active content folder, etc

WB2 doesn't load the URL for me either. Following for solution.

i'm in the same boat as vladnzrv-wq. I suspect that WB doesn't work on this device because it's unsupported for app store. in any event WB didn't work and WB2 fails because of https not working.

Coincidentally, I just ran into the same issue. PW 5th gen firmware 5.6.1.1
I assume it's an issue with certificates or TLS settings? I can't connect to a test page on my home server over HTTPS either, but HTTP does work.

I got to the KUAL, but it doesn't open, it just refreshes the home page for me. Anyone else have this problem? I tried re doing all steps, restarting, running hot fix again, and doesn't seem to do anything.

Like mentioned in this Reddit post I've ended up with both KUAL and the Kindle Launcher.
I have to start the Kindle Launcher and select "Start KOReader" from there - that'll fail. Then I click home and start KUAL, and KOReader starts 🤷🏻

That was somewhat helpful, but I couldn't find coplate, or other necessary files as discussed, or directions for running the command. But I finally figured it out.

HERES HOW I GOT IT TO WORK ON MY PW5 with both KUAL launcher issues (normal and egg wouldn't work).

1. Did all all the suggested steps as above. (WB2, hot fix, mrpi for 5th and below)
2. Deleted the KUAL files from Documents folder from my kindle.
3. Went to this website https://www.answeroverflow.com/m/1358898447364784171 to DOWNLOAD: Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.35_install.bin as I could not find it anywhere else.
4. Place that "Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.35_install.bin" installation file inside the mrpackages folder
5. Safely eject and disconnect the Kindle.
6. Open the Search bar, type ;log mrpi, and tap Enter
7. This worked for me finally after 5+ hours pulling my hair trying to make this work.
