The first gen kindle paperwhite cannot access https://www.winterbreak2.now.sh/. Unfortunately this device can't be registered either, so original Winterbreak does not work either.

I'm experiencing this same issue, it appears to be related to HTTPS, as any website that forces HTTPS fails to load in a similar way.

You can work around this by temporarily hosting the page on your computer by installing nodejs and pnpm and then with the repo checked out locally:

pnpm install
node ./api/index.js

Then open port 3000 on your computer (which might not be necessary) find your computer's IP address, and then on your kindle go to the following address: http://<computerIPaddress>:3000 (without the <>)

If you happen to have nix installed (like I do) here's a handy script that you can copy to do all that:

nix-shell -p nodejs pnpm git --run "git clone https://github.com/KindleModding/Winterbreak2/; cd Winterbreak2; pnpm install; node ./api/index.js"

...And this works? I cannot test on a PW1, but if so I might get hackerdude to host it faster

I was able to use this method to jailbreak my PW1 Kindle, as mentioned this seems to be just a general HTTPS issue with the PW1's browser. If you can change the website to not force HTTPS and allow regular HTTP connections that should fix the issue.

Thanks a lot! This method works totally fine with my PW1 with firmware 5.6.1.1 :)
BTW, if you are using npm instead of pnpm, use npm install to install the required packages. All commands should be executed in the project directory.

This also worked for me! It would be great if instructions for running locally could be added to the README as I imagine this will be the only way to run the jailbreak on the PW1 going forward.

Right, I don't know how Vercel handles this but I don't touch any of my deployments anymore, I'm only keeping this one up because Hackerdude said he'd get around to hosting it and I don't want to delete the active production URL

how do you use pnpm and node.js to host a website externally? i am totall new to all of this
