If one already compiled TSMP2 following the proper instructions, there could be a choice to make a link from that checked out directory to src/TSMP2.

I may use this issue for other such TSMP2-repo interaction specific things (hence the title).

In your case described above, it is not guaranteed that the commit of the TSMP2 build system matches those provided in the WFE. Nevertheless, it is possible to set a softlink to an existing TSMP build system, for example, and this will not restrict the function of the WFE. The user should only know what he is doing in this case.

Since Git 2.47 a symlink gives problem and this seems like an open discussion. But there is a way to handle this:
