When you click, say, "Democrats," or "Patty Murray" as a filtering option from the left, it could be a bit clearer that the next search you make by typing in the text box is WITHIN that filter, i.e. that after clicking Democrats, you need to click the "x" on that filter before searching "McConnell" would turn anything up. Maybe it's a matter of saying "FILTERING BY PARTY: Democrats" next to the X, instead of just "Party: Democrats," and perhaps also in bigger type.
