Missing texture glitch

I'm having an issue in the Aranna campaign (whenever the Shadowjumper is on-screen in cutscenes) and in the Return to Arhok campaign where textures are missing, resulting in a red graphical glitch all over. What could I do to fix this?

What are your specs, what mods and third-party softwares affecting rendering are you using? Post their config file, if relevant.

Also post your config.ini and system_detail.gas.

I'm on Windows 11, with a i7-12700KF processor and a GeForce RTX 4070 GPU. No mods, I simply made a copy of the GOG installation of the vanilla game and applied the Aranna fix to it. I also added it to the Galaxy library, but it doesn't really matter.

Couldn't find a config.ini, did you mean DungeonSiege.ini?

I don't see anything wrong in both files. Did you try using dgVoodoo2?

Like I said, there are textures missing from the library. It's not a rendering issue; dgVoodoo2 doesn't fix anything.

I don't think there are textures missing as it'd have been reported already. Does it happen with Yesterhaven revisited too?

Not within the first minute, at least. I also tried re-downloading the Maps and Resources folders from the Google Drive, but it didn't fix the issue with the Arhok campaigns.
Are you also using the GOG version of the game, or a different one?

I'm using the Steam version. The only differences between both versions are the executable (irrelevant when using the LOA fix) and the GOG wrapper.

I just tested on the GOG version and I have the same issue happening within the first 30 seconds. I'm gonna check what's going on...

The problem doesn't occur if I lower object detail below 50% or remove the GOG wrapper (ddraw.dll) or use dgVoodoo.

I tried:

• disabling fullscreen optimizations
• disabling shadows
• LAA patching the exe
• removing all mods
• running the game in windowed mode
• running the game in all compatibility modes
• running the game in 16-bit color mode
• toggling every single option in the wrapper
• using Return to Arhok revisited
• using standard resolutions for the game (800x600, 1024x768)

Nothing fixed it except for the above.

I tried removing ddraw.dll from the game folder, and that did indeed fix the issue. I wonder why that did it.

Even though it doesn't fix the underlying issue with the GOG wrapper, I consider this solved.

What exactly is that wrapper, anyway? Isn't what I removed just a DirectX driver?

It's a tool from GOG that converts DirectX 1-7 calls to OpenGL to make games more compatible with modern systems.

dgVoodoo2 is pretty much the same thing but converts them to DirectX 11/12.

Then there's d7vk/dxvk which converts them to vulkan.
