DS LOA and DXVK

Hello Genesis.
Do you know how to run DS1 with dxvk?
I tried by copying the dx8 file into the folder but i believe its ignored.
Also any way to make afterburner working too? I cant check if vulkan is being used because the riva tuner wont show up as overlay.

For AfterBurner, I can get it to show with dgVoodoo using Custom Direct3D support. On DS2 with DXVK this is not necessary to create a custom profile though.

For DX8 games, you have to put both d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll but it won't run for me either. To know if it's working, you can make dxvk.conf and put dxvk.hud = 1 in it or check for a DXVK log file in the game folder.

Turns out DS1 is a DX7 game so you'd need D7VK. I just tried it on Windows 11 and it's injected into the game but I get a black screen and/or it freezes at the main menu. Any reason why you'd want to use DXVK over dgVoodoo?

I dont really want to use DXVK I just want to get it running smoothly.
Now that I got Afterburner really working by using dgVoodoo I was very happy but it came with lots of lagging. Afterburner shows 60 fps but the ingame one shows like 40 especially when moving the cursor quickly.
Of course previously I successfully added my GPU to the .gas list and got the Hardware detected confirmed. It doubled the performance and removed mouse stutter.
Afterburner also seems to work without the custom direct3d feature using dgVoodoo.
However, I wonder what I could have done wrong by using dgVoodoo, any ideas?

I just got it working perfectly without the dgVoodoo method. DS1 and LOA look incredible when running smoothly, especially mass fights with many spells.

Alright. Genesis please allow me to post it by double post.
But before I post the Instructions I wanted to point out that the way the game runs now it probably never did since its release because back in the day the GPUs weren't strong enough to show that what you are about to witness after you applied these configs. The game never ran in this quality since its release. I tested for months. Man, im so pumped.

This guide is for 60fps but if you have a stronger GPU than you can choice whatever framerate you like, just your set monitor HZ and maxfps inside the shortcut must match.

The Afterburner wont work in this game but you wont need it. I assure you that the game will use enough VRAM and wont bottleneck at 64mb.
You will finally be able to utilize the full potential of your GPU.
I hope I can help other players to finally run this classic like nobody ever before.

Instruction for 60 fps on an Nvidia card without skipping a frame.

For this method dont use dgVoodoo or any other wrapper.

Add your GPU to the list so that you get "Hardware detected" in your DSVidoConfig. Its very easy!! Take non TnL option.
Inside system_detail.gas in your custom/normal resolution you are using field edit "max_back_buffers"to 0.
[1920x1080] { max_back_buffers = 0; }

Edit configs of your vendor as following:

In your Nvidia Control Panel DS profile set the following:

Low Latency mode - "Ultra" (Not important)
Virtual Reality pre rendered frames - "Use the 3D application setting". (Important)

In Windows put your monitor to 60hz.
Create a shortcut of DungeonSiege.exe and edit the target field to "maxfps=60" - nothing else.
Vsync is important and the game is using its integrated one, dont try to turn it off.

Launch the game with the shortcut - done!

I tried this and didn't notice any difference as I don't have issues on my system, so until several users with the same problem come forward with the same results as yours, I'm not gonna merge this to the guide.

Besides, we don't know what most of the settings in system_detail.gas actually do. I know that "simple_render" should never be turned on as it creates issues (ex: invisible characters in DS2) and that "below_min_spec" avoids a warning pop-up. The rest is up to speculation and may have no effect on modern hardware.
