As a runner, when I go to my Athlete page, I want the age shown to reflect how old I am now, at least within the year. It's weird to see that I'm 43, for instance, when I know full well that I'm 57. :-)
As a track director, I'd like to fill in a lot of the ages that are just missing in the results and get the associated age grades.
It seems that the solution to this for most people would be to associate a known age with a known year and then make calculations from then. So if you know that I ran a race in 2017 and my age then was 50, you should be able to calculate that I'm 57 or 58 now.
For some people, we simply won't have any data in the system at all, but we might be able to acquire it elsewhere (I could even imagine a note on their Athlete page, encouraging them to contact me). If there was a text for populating runner age at a particular year, just like we handle aliases now, we could slowly improve some of that data.
