Slow response

I've installed the EchoBot example, and it works fine except the fact that the update is really slow (~30 sec.)
Have I done something wrong, or is it the expected performance?
Is there a way I can tune it?

I can confirm that the response takes too much time.
The message is delivered to my phone within seconds, but the response arrives to the arduino like 15 seconds later.
It would be great to just be able to ignore that response, if necessary.
