Simplify the Free Drive course for 2027 #95

Description

@caudri-loki

Background

Free Drive should remain the most accessible dynamic discipline. The organization agreed to simplify the course and allow more freedom of movement while retaining a defined route and direction.

Agreed direction

  • Allow vehicles to use both lanes.
  • Allow crossing the center line while following the designated route and driving direction.
  • Remove intentionally missing or interrupted lane-marking sections from Free Drive.
  • Keep intersections and traffic signs as course elements.
  • Clarify which traffic-sign rules apply during Free Drive and which signs may be ignored.

Scope

  • update the Free Drive course definition and permitted vehicle position;
  • define the relationship between both-lane use, center-line crossing, and the designated route;
  • remove obsolete references to missing lane markings;
  • clarify the role of intersections and traffic signs;
  • update figures and scoring references where necessary.

Acceptance criteria

  • Both-lane use and center-line crossing are explicitly permitted.
  • The designated route and driving direction remain enforceable.
  • Missing lane-marking elements are removed from the Free Drive definition.
  • Intersection and sign behavior is unambiguous.
  • Figures, scoring tables, and related documents remain consistent.

Related but not duplicate: #80 — Definition of the Free Drive Course covered parking, intersection crossing, and a scoring multiplier.
